CrossFit South/LowCountry Scene 4

Up early Friday, aka 101231, to load the fresh atlas stones into the RV. Using zip ties, bungee cords, seat belts and lots of padding- the 340 total pounds of concrete cannon balls were secured. Hopefully law enforcement never gets a glance at this scene- these innocuous weightlifting items look more like implements of distruction. While our pursuits are totally legal, even possibly noble... Having to explain the details to smokey would be futile! Now as long as the stones stay in place for the 4 hour ride southeast to the Charleston Coast (known as the beginning of South Carolina's low country) for a noon work out at CrossFit Integrity. Owner Brian was on vacation but coaches Kevin, Beth and Amy took care of us. A very young group of about 10 athletes, a few other visitors too did the 5 rounds of: 400 m run,10 pull ups, 12 burpees following a creative obstacle course warm up. A huge warehouse space and expanding, this box is home to a top placing CrossFit Games affiliate team. We finished with a two set tabata WOD of sit ups and flutter kicks before taking the now obligatory group pic and gifting them the Atlas stones. They helped move them into the gym and we cracked them open to reveal the first road batch of homemade concrete. They were psyched, and thought owner Brian was going to love them. With a possibility that these could be used in the southeast's upcoming garage games or this year's Games-- hopefully our addition to CFI will help keep them performing well with the unknown and unknowable. We got many recommendations for new years eve, exchanged shirts and stickers, and headed to Taco Boy near the peninsula's French Quarter for lunch. A run to Lowe's for more concrete then back to the loading dock at CFI to make another batch of stones... This time with some red concrete dye to try some colorful pieces! As the sun began to set and the chiggers started biting... We finished this round of creation and clean up in just over an hour! Out to Folly Beach for New Year's Eve... We bought plenty of fire crackers from the local church's year 'round stand, ate local oysters (self-shucked tableside), yes some Palmetto pale ale, and then watched the official fireworks show... A great show for a small area- yet not quite as fun as lighting your own bottle rockets and launching them out of your own hands! With the RV parked just yards from the beach, we had the perfect launching spot for the 110101 polar bear plunge! While the Atlantic is much warmer in the summer... Today it was 48 degrees. A great way to start the year... Headed down the coast today aimed at savannah, GA. Our first rest day of the trip. Enjoy your Saturday/Sunday! Keep up with your vacation WODs, I have some emails and texts froma few of you who have done some! More pics soon... This post is from the iPhone.
